Listeners to WHOP Thursday morning heard the test tornado drill from the Emergency Alert System as Severe Weather Awareness Week is underway in Kentucky.
Nine people were injured Saturday night when an EF2 tornado struck the Eagle Crossing Apartments on Calvin Drive and a woman was killed in an EF2 tornado in south Logan County.
Rick Shanklin is the warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Paducah and says this is historically the time of the year when severe weather becomes more frequent.
He says it’s good time to go over your plan of action for a tornado warning with your family.
A NOAA weather radio is a good way to receive warnings during the overnight hours and you should be sure those radios have working batteries so they’ll still function during a power outage.
