Ground was broken Tuesday afternoon for the long awaited Second Street Park, which will be built at 475 East Second Street.
Hopkinsville City Councilman Thomas Grant says this park is just the beginning, as they will continue to improve and grow the community even after its completion.
District 1 Fiscal Court Magistrate Kenneth Bates says the park was a longtime coming and he’s happy to see it taking shape.
Mayor Carter Hendricks says the park is a reinvestment into the community, as people of all ages deserve a state-of-the-art park that they can walk to and enjoy. Weather permitting, the park will be completed sometime in late spring, when a ribbon cutting will be held.
The development will feature a playground, basketball court, pavilion, restrooms, parking and lawn areas.
