Kentucky State Police investigated an officer-involved shooting Friday night in Bowling Green.
Bowling Green Police officers responded to 516 East Third Street about 6:12 p.m. after someone called 911 and hung up.
Police determined a family disturbance led to the call and Officer Larry Zuniga made contact with 43-year old Elmo Demetrius Stewart of that address. A physical altercation began between Officer Zuniga and Stewart and the officer deployed his taser in an attempt to place Stewart into compliance, according to a news release from KSP.
It was then Stewart allegedly brandished a handgun, causing Officer Zuniga to shoot him with his duty weapon. Officers Zuniga John Deeb administered first aid at the scene and Stewart was flown by Air Evac to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.
