Kiwanis hears presentation for Heart Health Month

Posted by Hannah Hageman on February 8, 2018 in Local News

February is Heart Health Month and the Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville heard a presentation from the American Heart Association Thursday.

Suzanne Riley is a representative of the organization and says that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world, with stroke being the fifth leading cause. She says healthier life choices such as eating healthy, getting plenty of exercise and recognizing the signs of heart disease or stroke can help save lives.

Riley says the research done by the Heart Association has helped decrease the amount of those losing their lives to the disease.

She says the work needs to continue however, and people can help by donating or volunteering and participating in the local Heart Walk.

Money raised by the local Heart Walk, which is set to take place April 21 at the Western Kentucky Fair Grounds, goes to fund medical research, advocacy and educational programs to help Americans become healthier.

To donate or become involved in the walk, visit heart.org.                                                                                                                **
