The Christian County School Board approved a calendar revision at Thursday’s meeting that pushes the last day of school for students back due to snow days.
Chief Administrative Officer Laura Morris says most of the snow days will be made up by making “professional days” into student attendance days, but the last day for students will now be May 21, which is a Monday.
The last day of school had previously been set for May 17th. The changes made will not affect spring break, which is April 2nd through the 6th. With the potential for winter weather still in the air, the calendar is still subject to change if more days are missed.
In other action, the board approved a resolution in support of legislation regarding school-based decision making councils. Board Chair Linda Keller says the legislation, if passed by the Kentucky General Assembly, would create better balance and clarification between board and councils.
The board recognized retiring Director of Personnel Vicki Meyers and welcomed the new Director of Personnel, Anita Hopson, who is well known to the school district. She has served the district in some capacity for 24 years, including as a principal, Director of Elementary Education and as a teacher.
Also recognized was Jemma Carroll for taking second place in the State Deaf and Hard Hearing Spelling Bee and Ethan Noel for being named to the 2017 High Schools Boys All-American Soccer Team. **
