The Hopkinsville Transit System celebrated reaching the milestone of 100,000 rides given and the opening of a new dispatch center Thursday afternoon with a ribbon cutting.
Speaking with those that gathered in the center’s lobby, city councilman Paul Henson, who co-chairs the Public Transportation Advisory Committee, says the system absolutely shattered all goals they had originally set for the program.
He says they will continue to grow, with the establishment of 15 covered shelters at bus stops throughout the city.
Mayor Carter Hendricks says there are many to thank for its success, including Pennyrile Allied Communities Services for their partnership, the many bus drivers and those who choose to ride the Transit System to their destinations. **
