Bicyclist badly hurt in Madisonville collision

A bicyclist was badly injured in a two-vehicle collision in the intersection of West Arch Street and Pride Avenue early Sunday morning.

According to a news release from the Madisonville Police Department, officers responded to the intersection around 1:30 a.m. and upon arrival, located 56-year-old Dantry Matchem of Madisonville lying in the roadway and first aid immediately began.

Investigation determined Matchem had been operating a bicycle south on Pride Avenue and reportedly disregarded the stop sign, continuing into the intersection just as a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Christopher Peyton of Madisonville was passing through. The two collided in the intersection.

Matchem was transported to Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville for treatment of serious injuries.
