Medical event leads to Bypass accident

A medical condition was a factor in a rear-end collision Saturday afternoon on the Eagle Way Bypass.

It happened a few minutes after 1 p.m. near the Canton Pike intersection, with a collision report from Hopkinsville police saying 60-year old David Martin of Cadiz was westbound when he began having a seizure behind the wheel.

Approaching from behind was 39-year old David Bussanich of Lousiana, who told police that Martin was traveling very slowly, so he drove around him in the left lane and stopped to attempt to render aid.

Martin then hit the gas while still seizing and struck the rear of Bussanich’s car.

A witness helped remove Martin’s foot from the gas and EMS transported him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for evaluation.

Bussanich was not injured in the crash.
