Medical emergency causes man to crash vehicle into Madisonville bank

A medical emergency was a factor in an accident where a vehicle crashed into a bank Thursday afternoon in Madisonville.

It happened about 2:15 p.m. when Madisonville police say 69-year old Barry Smith of Madisonville was pulling into the parking lot at Owensboro Federal Credit Union. He told police he didn’t remember what happened due to the medical emergency, but witnesses said his vehicle may have accelerated before jumping a curb and entering the bank through large glass windows.

No one inside the bank was injured and Smith was transported by EMS to Baptist Health Hospital for treatment of his medical episode.
