Toddler drowns at Pennyrile Forest beach

A toddler drowned Saturday afternoon at the Pennyile Forest State Park beach.

EMS was dispatched to that location at 4:06 p.m. and was notified that CPR was in progress on a toddler, according to Hopkinsville Fire Department Captain Michael Pendleton.

Deputy Coroner Mike Stokes identified the victim as 4-year old Kinsley Lynch of Fort Collins, Colorado. He says her family was on vacation to visit friends who live in Clarksville and Kinsley was playing on the beach with her siblings and other children.

Her father ran into the water when he noticed her absent from the group and found her body on the bottom of the lake. The father attempted CPR and then others took over until paramedics arrived. Attempts to revive the girl lasted approximately 40 minutes.

Stokes says an autopsy is scheduled for Sunday at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and Christian County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.
