Families fill Jeffer’s Bend for Take Kids Fishing Day

Hundreds of children and their families descended on Jeffer’s Bend Environmental Center Saturday morning to take part in the 2018 Take Kids Fishing Day.

Diane Croney-Turner with Jeffer’s Bend took a sea of pictures of kids showing of their lines of fish, and she says they had around 700 people in the park and pulling some pretty big fish.

Turner says the day is all about getting people together and outside, enjoying nature and time spent with one another.

Prizes were given out for multiple categories, including a casting contest and largest and smallest fish of the day. Participants also had a chance to win door prizes.  Families lined the lake and river, teaching their kids to enjoy the trick of fishing and laughing together.

As for the biggest catfish, Big Jeff—it would seem it’s finally been caught. Although Turner says she can’t be completely sure, a family did catch a very large catfish and they may be the proud wranglers of the elusive fish.
