Man arrested for assault, unlawful imprisonment

A man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and not letting her leave was arrested Friday night after a vehicle pursuit.

Hopkinsville Police attempted to pull over 47-year old Jeffery Leavell of Hopkinsville after he failed to stop at a stop sign at East Ninth and Campbell Street, according to a report, which says he entered the opposite lane of traffic and turned onto Campbell.

He allegedly refused to pull over for police, but eventually came to a stop at Harrison and Short 19th Street.

His female passenger had blood on her lips and a swollen eye and said Leavell had been assaulting her for the last several hours and had refused to let her leave. He was taking her to the hospital at the time of the traffic stop and she said he became enraged while driving and reached speeds of 90 mph.

Leavell was arrested for fourth-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment, fleeing or evading police, driving without a license and disregarding a stop sign.
