Indictments returned for attempted rape, assault, wanton endangerment

An Oak Grove man was indicted by a Christian County Grand Jury Friday for attempted rape and other serious charges.

The indictment against 45-year old Duffley Ray James of Oak Grove alleges that he brandished a knife at the victim in Novemberand demanded she have sex with him. She reportedly complied in fear for her life.  James allegedly grabbed her and attempted to rape her but physically failed to before sexually assaulting her through other means.

James then reportedly stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene. He was arrested by Clarksville police and the vehicle was recovered.  He is charged with first degree attempted rape, first degree sexual abuse and felony theft of a vehicle.

Also indicted Friday is 34-year old Robert Parrish of Hopkinsville for allegedly striking Matthew Riley of the city with some type of object, causing him to go to the hospital for treatment in November. He is charged with second degree assault.

Thirty-five year old Dustin Harris of Hopkinsville was indicted for first degree wanton endangerment and second degree cruelty to animals. In October, Harris allegedly fired a shotgun shot at a dog that Harris said was with a 10-year old on his friend’s property.

Harris allegedly made a racist comment towards the child and then shot the dog, wounding it, and also wounding the child who was in close proximity.
