Christian Fiscal Court approves new solid waste agreement

Christian Fiscal Court as made it official—Impact Waste Services will take over residential trash collection in the unincorporated portions of the county starting July 1.

The approval of the Impact Waste solid waste franchise agreement was approved unanimously by the fiscal court at Tuesday morning’s meeting, which means those currently serviced by GFL in the county will need to take out new accounts with Impact Waste before July 1. GFL will still collect trash in June, but then in July they’ll go around and pick up their cans and equipment.

Speaking with magistrates, Robert Janes with Impact says the sooner folks call and get signed up the better, as they’ll be delivering new trash cans starting as soon as next week, and they want to make it as smooth a transition as possible.

You can sign-up for service by calling 270-660-8331, and make sure your accounts are good with GFL before closing it. Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam says this agreement will be more affordable for residents, as starting residential pick up fees would be $12.41 monthly, and increase slightly each following year, ending at $13.97 in 2030, with an additional bin costing around $4 monthly.

This agreement does not affected citizens in Hopkinsville, Oak Grove, Crofton or Pembroke.

Magistrates approved renewal of agreements with Todd and Trigg counties to house their animals at the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter and the fees that come along with, with Todd County’s fee increasing to $20,000.

Christian County Clerk Melinda Humphries spoke on the successful completion of an election audit, and everything came back accurate, showing that everything went well during the May 19 primary election and people can take some peace in knowing the process is working.
