Todd Co. jailer wants to start jail garden

New Todd County Jailer Jeff Penick wants to start a garden that inmates would tend in the upcoming growing season.

He explained to magistrates Friday morning that he’s looking to either use a half-acre to an acre of county property somewhere or to lease that much land at another location.

He says whatever is produced by the garden would be utilized by the jail and anything left over would be handed over to charitable endeavors.

Penick didn’t ask for action on his request Friday morning.

Todd County Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith presented his 2018 summary, showing responses to 80 separate incidents.

Fiscal Court gave Todd County Dispatch authority to purchase an 8-channel security camera system for about $400.
