Pennyrile Electric receives safety award

Employees at Pennyrile Electric have gone over 500,000 work hours without a lost time accident and a state official was in Hopkinsville Thursday morning to present the cooperative with the Kentucky Governor’s Safety and Health Award.

Michael Nemes is the Deputy Secretary of the Kentucky Department of Labor and praised the linemen and other employees, saying it’s very easy to become fatigued make a mistake that can sometimes be deadly.

Pennyrile Electric President and CEO Greg Grissom says there’s no reason to be complacent at 500,000 hours, urging employees to remain focused on safety.

Grissom and Nemes urged linemen to look out for each other and to call someone out when they see them doing something unsafe. Pennyrile has 111 employees who maintain over 5,000 miles of line across nine counties.
