Former Republic customers get free month at Todd convenience centers

Todd County residents who utilized the departing Republic Services for residential curbside trash pickup will receive a free one-month membership to utilize the convenience centers in July.

That’s after action by Todd Fiscal Court during a special-called meeting Friday afternoon, which allows those citizens to go to the centers in Elkton, Trenton, Clifty or Allensville. A trash card is normally $36 annually.

Residents utilizing the free month will need to present something showing they were a Republic customer.

Republic notified those customers earlier this month that they’d no longer be serving Todd County after the end of June. Queen City Disposal and Waste Enterprises has committed to picking up commercial trach collection immediately.

Waste Enterprises has indicated they’ll eventually begin the residential collection if they have 250 customers sign up, but it will take some time to organize that endeavor. Fiscal court also approved the purchase of body cams and dash cams for the Todd County Sheriff’s Department.

In other action, minutes from the meeting indicate magistrates took the necessary steps to close out the fiscal year financially, making all necessary transfers and expenditures.
