Man charged with assault of police officers following Clarksville pursuit

What began as a domestic assault ended in gunfire, a pursuit and a man charged with two counts of aggravated assault against police officers late Sunday night in Clarksville.

According to a news release, Clarksville police officers responded to reports of a domestic assault on Armistead Drive around 10:20 p.m. where 21-year old Elique Camacho allegedly punched a 12-year old girl in the head. He was reportedly intoxicated and threatening to fight anyone.

When the officer arrived, Camacho allegedly attempted to run him over with a black car, striking the officer’s hand as he dodged out of the way. A high-speed pursuit began at the intersection of Quin Lane and Fort Campbell Boulevard, where Camacho reportedly fired several shots from a gun at officers before being rammed by a patrol car.

His car became disabled and Camacho reportedly fled on foot. He was located early Monday morning on Eggars Court and arrested without incident.

Camacho is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, domestic assault and fleeing or evading police. Two officers suffered minor injuries from the incident.
