Cook retiring after 21 years at CVB, Jung excited to begin

After 21 years as executive director of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Convention and Visitors Bureau, this is the final week before retirement for Cheryl Cook.

Cook says she began considering retirement during an illness in 2015, but wanted to stay on through the 2017 eclipse.

She received her first email in 2007 about Christian County’s distinction of having the point of greatest eclipse and says that event and completion of the visitor’s center at the Trail of Tears Park are among the highlights of her career.

Brooke Jung is learning all she can from Cook in the next few days and believes Hopkinsville and Christian County have a lot to work with to enhance tourism.

She says the new building off East Ninth Street is a great asset to the Convention and Visitors Bureau and its efforts.

Cook says she’s confident Jung will be successful as she takes over.

Renovations to the Alhambra Theatre and to the museum will also help bring visitors to the community in the coming months and years, according to Jung, who says those projects are just two of many that paint a positive picture for the future of local tourism.
