New marriage license law takes effect July 14

Individuals under the age of 18 wanting to get married will have a much different process in Kentucky to obtain their marriage license beginning July 14th.

Christian County Clerk Mike Kem says a parent’s permission won’t be enough for a marriage license when the new legislation passed by the Kentucky General Assembly takes effect.

Kem says his office sees a 17-year old requesting a marriage license from time to time, but it’s not a frequent occurrence.
