Lady Colonels advance in extra innings at State Softball

Fourth ranked Christian County had to play its second consecutive extra inning game but held off Marshall County 4-3 in the opening round of the KHSAA State Tournament in Owensboro last night.

Tyler Shemwell had the game winning hit in the bottom of the ninth bringing home Emmy Blane from second. Christian County had the chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh with no outs, but left the bases loaded. Emmy Blane was 3-5 and Halle Rhea Hendricks was 2-4 as Christian County improved to 36-3-1. The Lady Colonels face Oldham County in a winners bracket game at 9 this morning, with the Heritage Bank pregame show at 8:45 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.

Other first round games included top ranked Scott County defeating Apollo 8-2 and Warren East walked off Ryle 3-2.
Winner’s bracket action this morning has Warren East meeting East Carter while Apollo faces Estill County and Marshall County goes against Bourbon County.
