Christian County wins 2nd region Baseball title

For the first time since 2008, the Christian County Colonels are headed to the KHSAA State Tournament. The Colonels defeated Union County 6-1 in the 2nd region final last night behind an 11 strikeout and no hit performance from junior Lane Diuguid. Union County scored first thanks a walk to pitcher Cade Duncan in the third inning. He would score following two stolen bases and a wild pitch.

Christian County would take the lead in the fourth and never relinquish it. Wyatt Stevenson tied the game at 1-1, then Layton Stallons two run single would break the game open. The Colonels would add a run in the 6th and two in the seventh to get their 20th victory of the season to go with 12 losses.

Next up is the 15th region winner next Friday at 12:30 pm Hopkinsville time at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Paintsville and Johnson Central will determine the Colonels opponent this evening.

Following the game, the All-Tournament team was announced. Christian County was represented by Wyatt Stevenson, Jase Polley and Lane Diuguid. Union County placed Caleb Corbett, Davis Corbett and Coy Burns.
Henderson County representatives were Bryce Willett, Nolan Melton and Maclaine Morris, Trigg County players were Jake Terrell and Riley Stallons, Caldwell County was represented by Gabe East, Madisonville by Jonathan Hogart and Hopkinsville by Caleb Bapp.
