Pedestrian fatally struck by train near Skyline Drive crossing

Additional details have been released on the fatal train versus pedestrian accident Sunday night near the Skyline Drive crossing in Hopkinsville.

A CSX spokesperson released a statement saying, “At approximately 10:00 p.m., a CSX train bound for Chattanooga, Tn., struck a person on the tracks near the Skyline Drive crossing in Hopkinsville.”

Christian County Deputy Coroner Zach Lamb pronounced 39-year old Jennifer Crawford of Hopkinsville dead at the scene, which was just north of the crossing.

CSX says it “extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident.”

Officials say “CSX will continue to work with the Hopkinsville Police Department in their investigation.” Lamb says CSX is reviewing video recording taken from the camera on the train to determine what exactly happened.

The train consisted of three locomotives, 77 loaded rail cars of mixed freight, and 34 empty rail cars. The train crew members were not injured.

On 5/27/18, at approximately 10:00pm (CST), a CSX train bound for Chattanooga, TN, struck a person on the tracks near the Skyline Drive crossing in Hopkinsville, KY. The Hopkinsville Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene and reported that the individual was fatally injured. CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident. CSX will continue to work with the Hopkinsville Police Department in their investigation.
