Christian County wins 8th district baseball title

For the fourth straight year and the 15th time since 1998, Christian County captured the 8th district championship defeating Hopkinsville 6-2. The Colonels manufactured a run in the bottom of the first inning without the aid of a hit, then got three runs in the third and added single runs in the 5th and 6th innings. Hopkinsville got its two runs in the top of the 7th.

Wyatt Stevenson was the winning pitcher for Christian County and at one stretch retired 11 batters in a row. He had 12 strikeouts and added two hits. Hopkinsville starter Logan Durst was the losing pitcher and the Tigers were held to just six hits which included a double by Robert Justus and a triple by Ryan Myers in the 7th.

Christian County will go to the regional tournament with a 17-12 record while Hopkinsville is 9-21. Play begins on Memorial Day at Christian County High School.

Following the game, the All District team was announced. Christian County was represented by Austin Fields, Jase Polley, Wyatt Stevenson, Lane Diuguid and Eric Silvy. Hopkinsville was represented by Dalton Bearns, John Duvall, and Robert Justus, UHA by Drew McGowan, Scribby Goode and Tanner Thomas and Fort Campbell by Ryan Sawyer.
