Voter turnout has picked up during afternoon

Afternoon rain showers didn’t stop voters from going to the polls to cast a ballot in the primary election.

After a slow start to the day, Christian County Clerk Mike Kem and Elections Coordinator Melinda Humphries say they had to print out and deliver additional ballots to some precincts as turnout steadily increased after lunch.

They noted that none of those precincts ever ran out of ballots, but their supply was getting low when the deliveries were made.

Todd County Clerk Cindy O’Bryan called their voter turnout “fair” and says there have been no problems through the day.

Trigg County had to contend with a power outage that lasted about 20 minutes when Pennyrile Electric had to replace a regulator in the Cadiz substation. Officials at the clerk’s office say voters using paper ballots were able continue voting during the outage.

Polls are open through 6 p.m. and anyone standing in line at that time will be allowed to vote.
