Ten months into the fiscal year, the City of Hopkinsville was ahead of payroll and property tax projections and had a cash balance of about $10.7 million.

City Financial Officer Robert Martin gave his monthly financial report Tuesday night to city council and says payroll tax collections are up 3-percent over the same period last fiscal year.

He says property tax revenues are also ahead of the budget and the city will likely collect at least 99-percent of assessments by the end of June.

Martin says he can’t remember the city ever having $10 million in the bank, but says that will drop a little before the fiscal year ends.

Council and Mayor Carter Hendricks recognized retiring Hopkinsville Fire Battalion Chief Dan Davis, firefighter/paramedic Tom Strack and firefighter/EMT Ron Luckey.

Local students who are participating in the state chess tournaments were also recognized.
