Christian County wins extra inning baseball game at UHA while Hoptown loses

What was supposed to be an 8th district doubleheader turned into a 13 inning marathon with Christian County defeating University Heights 4-2 at Chris Simmons Field.

Christian County scored a single run in the first inning, with UHA tying the game in the third. It stayed that way until the Colonels plated a run in the 12th as Bryson Brown scored on an infield hit by Eric Silvy. The Blazers tied the game in the bottom of the frame as Malik Lovan scored on a sacrifice fly by Dustin Moon.

The Colonels then won the game in the 13th as Cameron Crider’s infield bunt single brought home Keith Stallons with what proved to be the go ahead run. Wyatt Stevenson in relief of starter Lane Diuguid got the pitching win with Luke Welch in relief of Drew McGowan took the loss. McGowan went seven strong innings allowing a run on four hits and striking out 14. He and Welch combined for 21 K’s in the game.

Christian County improved to 7-9/3-0 in 8th district play while UHA fell to 5-8/0-3 in district games. It’s not yet known when the other game in the series will be played.

Elsewhere: Trigg County defeated Hopkinsville 14-5.
