Eric Thames hit a two-run homer to break a scoreless tie in the sixth and lead the Milwaukee Brewers past the Cincinnati Reds 2-0. Sal Romano surrendered two runs over five-plus innings to take the tough-luck loss. Tucker Barnhart had two of the three Cincinnati hits. The teams conclude the series this afternoon at Miller Park.

Elsewhere in the National League: Adam Wainwright allowed just one unearned run in five innings as the St. Louis Cardinals claimed a 5-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. Five relievers followed, with Bud Norris notching his fourth save. Matt Carpenter went 2-for-4 with three RBI for St. Louis, which won its fifth straight game, while the Cubs have lost three of the last four. The series concludes this afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Rhys Hoskins drove in the go-ahead runs in the 10th inning and the Phillies edged the Braves 5-1 at SunTrust Park. The Phillies have won seven of their last eight games. The teams play again this evening in Atlanta.
