Candlelight vigil to bring awareness to child abuse

There will be a candlelight vigil 6 o’clock Thursday evening at Freedom Elementary School to bring awareness to child abuse.

April is Child Abuse Prevention month and the Christian County Council on Child Abuse and Neglect hosts the vigil each year.

Barbara Meriwether is the coordinator of the Pembroke Elementary School Family Resource Center and says the choirs from three local schools will perform.

Presenters will give attendees the latest statistics on child abuse in Kentucky.

Awards will be presented to winners of the school poster and poem contests, according to Meriwether.

The Council will also present its Advocate of the Year award to a member of the community who works to make the world a better and safer place for local youth. The public is invited to attend the vigil.
