Explosive demolition of the old Lake Barkley Bridge along US 68/KY 80 at Canton in Trigg County was successful Wednesday morning.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd says the process went as planned.
He says the next step is clearing steel and debris from the main channel.
Demolition of the approach spans will be performed using heavy equipment and more conventional means.
Spectators watched the blast on both sides of the bridge in areas established as safe viewing locations and some anchored their boats on Lake Barkley far enough away to be safe, but close enough to get a good view of the historic event.
