Masters begins today

Sergio Garcia begins defense of his title today at the first major of the season, The Masters, in Augusta, GA. He is paired with Louisville area native Justin Thomas and US Amateur champion Doc Redman. The group tees off just before 10 Hopkinsville time this morning.Tiger Woods is also playing in the event for the first time in three years.

Patrons were treated Wednesday to a memorable afternoon at the Par 3 tournament. Tom Watson won the exhibition at six under, one shot better than Tommy Fleetwood and Thomas Pieters. Jack Nicklaus’ grandson, GT, who was caddying for the six-time Masters winner, made his first career hole in one on the 9th hole.

It was also announced Wednesday beginning next year there will be the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship, with the final round of the 54 hole event to be played at Augusta National the Saturday before the Masters.
