Former Louisville coach Rick Pitino almost became the new coach at the University of Rhode Island last week. According to the website GoLocalProv.com, multiple sources say the deal would have paid the embattled Hall of Fame coach $2 million a year.
Before the hire could be made, URI president David Dooley shot the hiring down. According to multiple sources, Dooley balked due to Pitino’s ties to an FBI probe of the NCAA and other controversies.
