UPDATED: Man critically injured in Bypass wreck

Details have been released on a two-vehicle wreck Monday morning on the Eagle Way Bypass at the Pennyrile Parkway interchange that critically injured a local man.

A report from Hopkinsville Public Safety Officer Tara Clark says 55-year old Carson Grace, Jr. of Hopkinsville was turning his car left from the Parkway exit ramp onto the Bypass and stopped in the southbound lanes of traffic.

Traveling south in a pickup was 31-year old Brandon Pickett of Oak Grove, who attempted to swerve and change lanes to avoid striking Grace’s car. Police say that’s when Grace accelerated forward into Pickett’s path, causing a t-bone collision.

Grace had to be extricated from his car and was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center in critical condition. Air Evac was contacted, but was unable to fly due to weather.

Pickett went by EMS to Jennie Stuart and his passenger, 55-year old Joseph Chewning of Oak Grove, said he’d go to the hospital by private vehicle. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
