Governor Matt Bevin says pension reform must get done during this year’s session of the General Assembly and he is urging lawmakers to act.

In a video posted on his Facebook account Saturday night, Governor Bevin says fully-funding the pension systems isn’t enough for the long run.

He hopes the citizens of Kentucky will contact their lawmakers and demand action on pension reform during this year’s session.

Bevin made headlines last week after comments on a Campbellsville radio station, where he called teachers who protest pension reform legislation “selfish and short sighted.” In his Facebook video, the governor said his grandmother and many of his family members have been public school teachers and he has great respect for teachers.

Local legislators said on this week’s radio program on WHOP that pension reform is seeming less likely as the days dwindle down on the session.
