UHA defeats Christian County in 2nd region championship game

An over capacity crowd at Henderson County High School which included UK coach John Calipari watched University Heights win the 2nd region championship for the first time since 2008 as the Blazers defeated Christian County 78-70.

The Blazers built a 13 point lead early in the 2nd period before the Colonels rallied to take a 36-33 halftime lead. Christian County would lead 56-55 after three periods before the Blazers outscored the Colonels 23-14 in the fourth period to get the win.

KyKy Tandy had 33 points for University Heights with TaQuon Hollowell adding 13 and KJ Crump and Drew McGowan each pitched in 11. Christian County got a game high 40 points from Detorrion Ware and 13 from Cory Trice in a losing effort.

Christian County concludes the season 22-8 while University Heights improved to 23-7. The Blazers will play the 10th region winner in the opening game of next Thursday’s morning session at the Boys Sweet 16 in Rupp Arena, Lexington at 11 am Hopkinsville time.

In the 10th region semifinals last night, Scott High defeated Paris 46-43 and Campbell County edged Clark County 76-71 in overtime. Scott and Campbell County will meet in the championship game this evening.
