Driver involved in Union Co. crash dies

The driver involved in a high speed crash in Union County last week died Saturday at Deaconess Hospital due to complications with his injuries.

Thirty-five year old Robert Bluem of Henderson is the second person to die due to the crash, the first being his wife, 31-year old Linda Smith-Bluem of Henderson, who was announced dead at the scene Wednesday.

As previously reported, a Kentucky State Police trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Robert Bluem and he allegedly sped away. The trooper reportedly quickly lost sight of the vehicle.  Soon after, emergency calls were received about a wreck that involved the vehicle from the pursuit.

Preliminary investigation revealed Bluem was travelling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle on US 60 near KY 141. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert and a tree before coming to a stop.

Both occupants were sought on warrants and the car was allegedly stolen, according to Kentucky State Police.
