U of L’s appeal to NCAA denied

The NCAA is denying Louisville’s appeal of penalties levied against the men’s basketball program, forcing the Cardinals to vacate wins from 2011-15. That includes their 2013 national championship and 2012 Final Four appearance. The penalties were handed down last year following a sex-for-pay scandal that ultimately led to the firing of head coach Rick Pitino and athletics director Tom Jurich.

Louisville interim president Greg Postel said they disagree with the ruling and feel their cooperation during the investigation should have been a factor in the decision.

Former coach Rick Pitino is scheduled to make a statement about this later today according to his attorney Steve Pence.
