HPD Officer recognized for saving stabbing victim’s life

The Hopkinsville Police Department recognized Officer Cory Smith Wednesday with the Life Saving Award for his quick actions that saved a stabbing victim’s life in 2017

According to a post from HPD, Officer Smith responded to reports of a stabbing that occurred on North Main Street and when he arrived, he discovered the victim had been slashed across his face and suffered a deep stab wound to his lower right leg.

Officer Smith quickly retrieved his tourniquet and applied it to the victim’s leg to stop the bleeding. The victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Center, where it was discovered the knife had nicked his femoral artery.

EMS confirmed that Officer Smith’s quick actions of applying the tourniquet correctly is what saved the victim’s life.
