Crash causes power outage, driver charged with DUI

Hopkinsville Police arrested a man for DUI Saturday night after his vehicle hit a utility pole and caused a power outage.

The collision report from Officer Sara Damron says 37-year old Richard Kesler of Hopkinsville was headed east on First Street Extension about 9:30 p.m. when his pickup slid off the icy road and struck a utility pole, splitting it in half.

An arrest citation states Kesler had slurred speech and there was an odor of alcohol coming from his person. Kesler allegedly admitted to drinking earlier in the evening and registered a blood alcohol content of .184—over twice the legal limit.

Kesler was arrested for aggravated DUI.
